Brewery Bees

Brewery Bees

“We enjoy eating the foods we love, the flowers that bloom and the honey they create…so we have made a little space for our Brewery Bees on Indian Street.”
– Meredith Sutton

What first started as a love for honey quickly developed into an interest in keeping bees. What has followed only came naturally to Kevin and Meredith: After mentoring under a local beekeeper, they brought their hobby to work.

Honey Bees from Langstroth and Top Bar hives now thrive behind the brewery, gathering pollen and nectar and making their sweet magic. Though the small apiary cannot supply the amount of honey needed for our production beers (this we get from our good friends at Savannah Bee Co.), you can find it in many R&D small batches.

Our Brewery Bees have also contributed to creating a unique house yeast strain that was cultured from a cutting of their honeycomb. With characteristics of a Belgian yeast, it embodies the complexity of nature you would expect from these little pollinators: A combination of spice and floral notes with hints of clove and fruity esters of banana.
